Documents you will need

Please have copies of the following documents ready before beginning the application:

• I want to submit correct VIN information
  • Copy of VIN can be found on the door sticker or windshield of the vehicle or a letter of confirmation from the insurer will be accepted.
• I want to submit correct insurance information (includes fleet policies)
  • Letter of confirmation from Insurer or a copy of pink insurance slip.
• I want to confirm my vehicle is a seasonal vehicle
  • Complete seasonal vehicle declaration.
  • As seasonal vehicle is: a vehicle that is only driven on a highway between April 1st and September 30th annually but maintains an active vehicle registration. This includes, but is not limited to, motorcycles, antique automobiles, convertibles, sports cars, and motorhomes.

IMPORTANT

• The Automobile Insurance Regulations, 2019 require insurers to notify the Registrar of the cancellation or expiration of a policy issued for private passenger vehicles.
• It is illegal to operate an uninsured vehicle in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Motor Registration Division (MRD) verifies your insurance policy using your vehicle identification number (VIN).
• It is your responsibility to obtain insurance coverage. Failure to do so will result in the suspension of the vehicle registration.

Personal information is collected here under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and will be used to validate insurance and issue a Vehicle Registration. Section 6 of the HTA allows Motor Registration Division (MRD) to disclose an applicant's personal information to law enforcement and select federal, provincial and municipal officials. Personal information collected by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is protected under the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015.
